DX Rules & Guidelines

DX will be following the USASF DANCE RULES for all performances. In addition, DX will also enforce the list of rules below.

VIOLATIONS ASSESSED 0.5 pt. / deduction will be taken off the costume score from Judge 3.

RULE 1: TIME - TEAM ROUTINE

Routines will have a minimum of one minute and thirty seconds (1:30) to a maximum of two minutes and fifteen seconds (2:15). Timing will begin with the first choreographed movement or note of music and end with the last choreographed movement or note of music; whichever comes last.

RULE 2: TIME - SOLO

Solo performances have no minimum requirement and may not exceed a total time of one minute and thirty seconds (1:30). Timing will begin with the first choreographed movement or note of music and end with the last choreographed movement or note of music; whichever comes last.

RULE 3: TIME - DANCE TEAM CHALLENGE

Dance Team Challenge routines have no minimum requirement and may not exceed a total time of one minute and thirty seconds (1:30). Timing will begin with the first choreographed movement or note of music and end with the last choreographed movement or note of music; whichever comes last.

RULE 4: COMPETE IN ORDER

DX Events will be diligent to always go in program order throughout the competition. The wrongful holding of any routine may result in disqualification or point deduction.

RULE 5: CHOREOGRAPHY

Routine choreography should be age appropriate and entertaining for all audience members. Vulgar or suggestive material is defined as any movement or choreography implying something improper or indecent, appearing offensive or sexual in content, and/or relaying lewd or profane gestures or implications. Inappropriate choreography is illegal.

RULE 6: BUMP UP

Any routine may bump up to the next division.

RULE 7: SUPERVISION

Dancers must be supervised by a qualified adult at all times.

RULE 8: COSTUMING

Costumes must be age appropriate and suitable for family viewing. Inappropriate costuming is illegal.

RULE 9: NUMBER ON A TEAM

Team competition must include a minimum of four (4) dancers. There is no maximum limit.

RULE 10: SUBSTITUTIONS

Substitutions may be made in the event of an injury or other serious circumstance. Substitutes must also abide by the age and gender restrictions in all divisions in which they compete. Substitutes must be a registered member on a roster and have a completed waiver form on file.

RULE 11: SPORTSMANSHIP

A dancer, director, teacher, trainer, parent, guardian, spectator, or any fan must not commit an unsportsmanlike act. This includes, but is not limited to, acts of conduct such as:a) Accept the decisions of the judges without showing inappropriate emotions.b) Avoid public displays of criticism.c) Exercise self-control at all times.d) Avoid improper gestures and language under any circumstances, including; on the basis of race, religion, gender, or national origin.e) Treat opponents with respect at all times.f) Win without boasting. Lose without excuses.g) Refrain from using profane or inappropriate language or gestures.h) Refrain from baiting or taunting an opponent.**The studio director or teacher on hand is responsible for seeing that all persons affiliated with their organization conduct themselves accordingly or the studio will be assessed a violation.

RULE 12: PROPS

a) Props must be set-up and torn down within a two (2) minute time span.b) Props cannot be higher than ten feet.c) Dancers may not stand on a prop that is higher than six feet.d) Props must not required electricity, produce smoke, fog or fire, use an air compressor, aerosol or non-aerosol sprays, and any other type of flammable or hazardous materials.e) Confetti, latex balloons, or other similar substances may not be used or thrown during the routine.f) Props with rubber or plastic wheels or any moving parts that come in contact with the floor must be taped.g) Damages and repair needs to the floor will be billed directly to the studio.h) No dancer may perform on furniture and/or tables used by the judges or staff.

RULE 13: PHOTOS & VIDEOS

The use of photography and/or video cameras, including smart phones is strictly prohibited. Taking photos or videos of any kind during routine performances may result in disqualification or point deduction for that routine. Photos and videos are allowed during all award ceremonies.

RULE 14: DIVISION MINIMUM

DX reserves the right to combine divisions of the same age if there are less than three (3) routines registered.

RULE 15: CHAMPION TITLE REQUIREMENT

DX reserves the right to award Champion titles to routines who score over 65% when there is one routine in a division.

RULE 16: MUSIC

All music played at sanctioned events (i.e.: AmeriCup) must comply with applicable copyright laws. 

IS THE AMERICUP A WORLDS QUALIFIER?

YES -- The AmeriCup has been a sanctioned USASF event for dance since it debuted in 2007. To date, the AmeriCup has qualified more World title holders than any other event producer.
