Good sportsmanship is contagious. DX asks all fans, directors, teachers, and dancers to exhibit respect towards others. DX will award this honor to one studio at each event. Since Lisa Saline first began her company back in 1987, she included a Spirit & Sportsmanship Award.  It has always been an important part of her events. The Andrew Lawrence Spirit & Sportsmanship Award is the highest honor a program can earn while at DX events. Studios will vote and the recipient announced during the last awards ceremony of the event. This elite honor is named in memory of a special DX staff member, Andrew Lawrence. Andy passed away at the tender age of 11 after being hit by a car while riding his bike.

One representative per program will meet before Saturday night’s Awards Gala to cast their vote. Announcement will be made during the show.

Earning This Honor

Good sportsmanship is contagious. DX asks all fans, directors, teachers and dancers to exhibit respect towards others. Studios will be assessed a 5 pt. per occurrence violation if a dancer, director, teacher, parent or spectator acts in an unsportsmanlike manner. Refer to the Rules for specific details.

HOW CAN YOU EARN THIS HONOR?  Good sportsmanship is contagious. DX asks all fans, coaches, directors, teachers, and dancers to exhibit respect towards others.

1. Respecting dancers both on and off the stage.

2. Demonstrating spirit.

3. Showing adjudicator appreciation.

4. Fostering a positive environment.

5. Displaying high sportsmanship.

6. Most importantly, acting in a way in which other dancers admire.

Studios will be assessed a 5 pt. per occurrence violation when someone from their studio acts in an unsportsmanslike manner.
